The South Downs National Park Authority, with members from across the Park from Winchester to Eastbourne, is now responsible for all planning matters inside the Park; a function previously of the various District Councils.
The Authority has offered District Councils that are either entirely or partly inside the Park the opportunity to continue to take the Planning role for the majority of Planning and Listed Building Applications.
Many District Councils have decided not to avail themselves of this offer, but instead rely upon the Park Authority for planning matters.
Lewes District Council is not one of these.
Our Council’s Planning Committee drawn from across the District which is, roughly speaking, halfway inside the Park, remains the Authority for all planning matters. Only those that are considered to be a potential threat to the Park will be debated and decided by the Park Authority’s own Planning Committee.
